Manzanilla Mayaro

Mayaro Coast & River

One of the long lasting pieces of advice given to me was that of a visiting friend several years ago on being exposed in brilliant sunshine to the relatively untouched beauty of our islands Trinidad and Tobago. Overwhelmed with the green lush vegetation and the sounds and sights of our insects birds and wildlife he urged me not “…to take this for granted”

Now several years later I reflect on some of the events cause by our incursions - agricultural abandonment in favour of housing, slash and burn activities on our hillsides and the uncontrolled ‘development’ via construction, quarrying and removal of our resources in prime forest locations.

Meanwhile and while the experts agree to disagree, it is clear that our very own situation is deteriorating against a backdrop of global warming, changing climatic end environmental conditions and mud volcanoes forming in Mayaro’.

And hence our choice for the first virtual tour. That of the Manzanilla-Mayaro stretch as it is locally known.

Here are some photos and video clips presented to warm the souls of those experiencing the longing for their sweet Trinidad homeland (especially in the winter months) or as a reminder for those living here who still throw the occasional sweet drink or beer bottle and doubles wrapper out the car window See how beautiful your homeland is!!
