In the heavenly firmament there are many, many stars and I believe that our steel pan is one of them. And so “may the Angels welcome you to paradise…” when today’s old pans are consigned to the dump. 

Pat Bishop states …. For many years I have been painting small pictures about music. This time the pictures are larger and my interest in mixing media has grown. But while I have always “used” music as a part of my pictures, I have never said why. It isn’t simply… that I am involved in making music but, as Walter Pater says, “… All art constantly aspires toward the condition of music…”  I have always understood that to mean that music is “itself” It is not tied to words or images.

Many artists, I imagine would enjoy that kind of freedom. 

In the case of this exhibition my focus is upon a musical instrument [the Pan] which I am trying to thank for the many years of challenge, joy, frustration and I dare say, occasional triumph which it has given to so many of us.
